Saturday, the 26th is/was Independent Bookstore Day. It’s not too late to order something from your local store or through bookshop.org.
Oye!
Sorry to be such a nudge*, but I’m finishing up my first week of some terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad “unga bunga crud” as my mother used to call it. Almost went to the walk-in clinic last Thursday, but they would only give me antibiotics and tell me it would be gone in 7-10 days. I can do that at home. Thanks, anyway.
Maybe it’s not such a bad thing to keep my head under the covers in a world where we are deporting 2-year-olds against their parents’ wishes and arresting judges. I am very happy to miss the anemic shadow of what used to be a robust White House Correspondents Dinner and I’m burying my nose in the classic British children’s book “Skating Shoes” by Noel Streatfeild instead.
Good stuff in the archives
‘Til we meet again, look over the archives of the “Good to Know” newsletter. We are getting very close to 100 — yes, I said ONE HUNDRED posts.
This month, you’ll find tributes to “The Great Gatsby” and Broadway star Gavin Creel as well as children’s books you may have missed and a reminder about the great films of James Ivory and Ismael Merchant. I reviewed some books, docs, and movies in Chit-Chat and A Few Laughs and the enduring legacy of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
In between hacking coughs, I am thoroughly enjoying “Hacks” on HBO/Max, “Your Friends and Neighbors” on Apple TV starring my former part-time husband John Hamm, and “Dying of Sex” on Hulu. It was also fun to watch Viola Davis kick some Presidential butt in “G20” on Amazon Prime.
And, considering current events, it might also be time for you to watch “Conclave.” Great performances and a good old mystery with gorgeous costumes and sets.
Can you believe it’s almost MAY?!?!?!
See you Tuesday. We need to talk “Etoile.”
*nudge is variation of “nudnik” in Yiddish, which means someone who is a bother
Thank you for reading the “Good to Know” newsletter.
I publish three times a week, including a deep dive on Sundays called “Sunday Brunch.”
See you Tuesday!

Have a sticker
You can help support my work by spreading the word about the “Good to Know” newsletter with a free sticker!
One reader said it made her want to “play Twister and go on The Dating Game.” Groovy, man.
If you would like a sticker or two or three, drop me an email at KellyA1042@gmail.com. I will spring for the stamp. And, as I’ve said before, they look great on a laptop cover. They measure 3” X 2."
Good to hear! There is so much talent in the valley. I am doing menthol steam baths, an inhaler, cough drops, and lots of sleep. Just need time.
